B&W grew into the worldís largest grower of fresh watercress, not by focusing on being the biggest. Instead B&W Quality Growers focused, then as they do now, on being the best.
With year round distribution throughout the United States , Canada and into Europe in the winter, B&Wís watercress and arugula have become the benchmarks for quality for retailers, wholesalers and food service purveyors
The Burgoon and Weaver families founded B&W Quality Growers in 1969 by merging Baker Watercress Company with Weaver Watercress. The Baker/Burgoon family has been growing watercress since 1870, making B&W one ofthe oldest continuing family farming oper- ations in America. Today the fifth (5th) generation of the family is beginning to take the helm to continue the family dynasty.
This year, 2005, marks the 135th Anniversary of the familyís commitment to watercress.
To help B&W achieve this, a wonderful family of dedicated employees has grown with us. Weíre proud that we have growers who have been with us for over 55 years, migrant work- ers who have been with us for over 25 years, whose adult children are now proud to be part of the B&W family. Many of our managers started as laborers and many of tomorrows managers are being gromed today for more important roles in the future.
B&Wís longevity has not been without struggle or sacrifice, and long-term success does have its rewards. B&W is proud to offer free college tuition to any employeeís children after 10 years of full time employment. We provide quality housing on a year round basis for our field and packing house employees. And all employees receive paid vacations, paid holidays, sick leave and the utmost respect of their employer and their co-workers.
We mark the celebration of this anniversary as we have for over 135 years. By thanking our family of workers and customers for their role in B&Wís continued success. From our family, to yours... Thank you.
